Fractional Laser Resurfacing was co-invented by one of Bowes Dermatology's physicians, Dr. Dieter Manstein, while at Harvard Medical School. Drs. Manstein and Anderson developed the principle of Fractional PhotoThermoLysis, which is the basis and core mechanism in which all fractional lasers and procedures are based, including FRAXEL and ICON XD.
Changes associated with ageing and sun exposure (photoaging) such as: fine lines, wrinkles, rough blotchy patches, acne scars and deep expression lines are all suitable for treatment with these lasers. These changes are not only accelerated by sun exposure, but also by smoking, alcohol and atmospheric pollution. Other conditions that can be treated include chicken pox scars, irregular surgical scars, pigmented lesions and some moles.
The most commonly treated areas are the skin around the eyelids, mouth, forehead and cheeks. The neck and hands are also often treated with Fractional Lasers, particularly the Fraxel ReStore. This helps the removal of lines and wrinkles, restoring a smoother complexion in those areas.
In some cases, fine lines and wrinkles can be eliminated entirely, but some lines such as the deep laugh and frown (expression) lines may only be softened. You should think of laser resurfacing as an improvement, rather than an elimination of all lines.
Fraxel and Icon XD Laser Resurfacing for Wrinkles and Acne scars is one of the most common laser resurfacing procedures that are performed at our center. |
