Acne Scars are one of the most difficult conditions to improve aesthetically. Dr. Bowes and the Bowes Dermatology experts utilize various techniques to achieve superior results.
First, Patients receive several sessions of the Fraxel or Icon XD lasers. After this, remaining scars are treated with Subcision and Fillers. Skillfully, the doctors break fibrous strands that pull the scars down, releasing them. Then, a special Hyaluronic Acid filler is carefully and meticulously injected in those scars, restoring a normal relief and significant improving their appearance.
Acne Scars can be extremely bothersome and even stigmatizing to the patients who suffer them. Not infrequently, those who suffer from acne scarring will become self-conscious, at times depressed and socially isolated, as some cases can be quite severe. Standard treatments consist of: Retinoid Creams, Facials with Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels, as well as Fractional Lasers such as Fraxel? and Icon%u2122 XD.
Yet, many acne scars remain unimproved despite using all of these modalities. And that is in great part because as the scars form, deep fibrous bands are formed underneath the skin surface that pull them down permanently. This phenomenon cannot be treated or stopped with lasers or other treatments. However, 'excising' or 'removing the scar from underneath', also known as Scar Subcision, can offer a dramatic improvement in the appearance of acne scars. This procedure will free up acne scars from the bands that pull them down.
Subsequently, immediately after, a hyaluronic acid filler such as Juvederm? or Restylane? can be injected to fill in the defect or space under the scar. Now the filler is able to deposit itself freely and stably under the surface of the 'released scar', leading to a very significant improvement in their appearance and of the overall facial skin surface.
The Scar Subcision and Fillers treatment typically takes 20 to 40 minutes, and is very well tolerated by patients. |
